The Fridge Saga

When I saw Leo, my flatmate-landlord, on Friday, he announced that he had got me a fridge, he just needed to bring it round and put it in the kitchen. He said he might do it on Saturday, but I didn't see any sign of him all weekend. Then finally, just as I was getting ready for bed on Sunday evening, I heard people coming into the flat and it sounded like they were carrying something heavy and having the usual 'Careful now, this way, put it down here' type of conversation that people have when carrying heavy things. I had my fingers crossed that it might be a fridge, but when I had a look in the corridor I couldn't see anything. When I went into the bathroom the next morning though, there was a fridge sat on top of the washing machine. I was really excited all day that I would finally have a working fridge! I rushed home, and saw that it was all ready and installed in my room. I opened it and my first thought was 'Hmm, seems pretty warm for a fridge'. About five minutes later my flatmate-landlord wandered in to tell me that he'd got me a fridge, but it didn't work. I couldn't help thinking that's kind of what you get for buying a fridge that only costed 15 euros...

I was slightly worried, as he'd previously mentioned that he would be going to Switzerland for a month the next day, but luckily that evening he went to collect another fridge. I heard him come back in, so I opened my door to see if he needed any help transporting it, but he came out of the bathroom holding some cleaning products and a sponge, and said 'I'm just going to a gas station to clean it' 'Err...okay' was the best response I could come up with (whilst also thinking 'Why a gas station?!') and then I heard him bring the fridge in at around midnight.

Finally, the next day, I came home to find a fridge in my kitchen that actually works! It even has a freezer section, which the 15 euro one was missing. It is a lot taller than the gap under the work top really allows, but he cunningly solved that issue by just removing the work surface and placing it on top of the fridge, so it now towers over the rest of the surface space, but I don't really care, I have a working fridge, I am going to go celebrate by buying some milk and yoghurt!
